![]() Does the size of the pot make a difference in the height of a plant? What I mean is if I were to plant a 12” or smaller plant in a gallon pot make the height taller as it grows than if I had used a bigger gallon size? In the sense that a bigger pot might make it smaller in height. I knew you’re supposed to make sure the pot is big enough for the corm and the roots to grow. So I pretty much use bigger pot sizes than maybe what the plant needed. Should I use smaller size pots for all my plants? Even for the tall plants as well?

![]() With young plants, TC's or pups, I think pots that are too large can hold too much moisture even under light watering conditions. I think its best the pot up as the plant grows.

![]() One trick I use is to lift up the pot to see if the roots are coming out of the bottom . This gives me a clue to move to a bigger pot. As Smeash is saying too big a pot can lead to problems with wet soil and cause rotting roots and corm.

Yeah I think you’re right about not using a bigger pot for a smaller sized plant! I’ll start using smaller pots from now on for sure! Thanks so much for the tip! ![]()

Great idea! I don’t think I’ve checked the bottom of the pot too often! Now I sure will! Thanks for the help! ![]()

Why.....this will give your plants time (30+days) to set roots in the new home for 5+ months in a new container under less than ideal conditions. Most/All gardeners pull yhe plant just before the frost......just to kill it a few months later.. Last edited by cincinnana : 08-20-2021 at 05:13 PM. |

I was going to ask.....'when is the best time to pull plants relative to frost, and would it be appropriate to pull them now and put them in pots, or should I wait until closer to frost and try to bare-root them instead' I think I am more comfortable putting the plants I don't plan on leaving in the ground in pots as I don't have a great place to truly dormant store them
