Default ensete maurelii leaves turning yellow

I bought a 5 foot tall ensete maurelii from the home depot to keep as an indoor plant. It is located in a corner with no direct sunlight but plenty of ambient light. I have had it for about one month during which time the leaves have begun to yellow and then turn from the edges inward. I have not repotted the plant have watered it only once (and very lightly) and have been misting it once a week. Is this still moving stress? Any ideas?

Welcome to the org oystersandbeer. What a great name!!! First thing I'd do is check for spider mites. You will be able to see what looks to be dust and maybe small webbing on the leaves. If you have them get some insecticidal soap and after hosing down the leaves apply it until they are gone. Are only the lowest leaves turning yellow or all? Misting doesn't do much to help. I added a humidifier to the room I overwintered my plants in. If this isn't an option make a humidity tray by placing a tray or saucer of water iunder your pot with enough gravel or marbels etc. to raise the pot above the water that you will fill it with. This will humidify the area immediately arounfd the plant. It would be best if you could supply as much light as possible as well, maybe a small grow light.Good luck.

give the plant some light and see how it reacts. it is hard to say what could be wrong with it, but without light it aint gonna grow much. put him in some sunlight or get a little grow light for him or a big HID light - that will fix him right up.

Seems like all that African plant wouldn't like.
a) repot to largest possible pot, Maurelli is extremely high in maturity (if it even reaches it...)
b) slowly introduce to direct sunlight, beware not to burn the remaining leaves
c) water often and regularly in higher amounts (if the temps are high I might add to this)

jack is right iv see those plants at HD they are woefully under potted secondly Maurellii need full sun not indirect secondly do not mist it thees Bananas are for the high plains of Ethiopia it is dry as a bone there Maurellii can go with out water for months at a time although it will go in to dormancy and if you get water in to the crown of the plant on a regular basis it will rot fast with in a few weeks its normal for the older leafs to turn yellow and die as they get old new leafs will be coming out of the center all the time if its not pushing a new leaf every couple of days then its not getting enough light

so here is your game plane re-pot feed and move to out doors for the summer they don't make good house plants and ones it gets doing in the Sun water the hell out of it if the temps are over 80 deg F my maurellii drinks 5 gal of water a day but its a rather large plant
