Hey all, I want to do more banana trees and I want the fruit as well. Now I'm looking at the 'Super Dwarf' varieties as a possibility since during winter months I have very limited window space. question about those, do they even have edible fruit and or are they even worth the fruit or will it be too small to even peel and eat?

Well, I just bought one, actually. According to the website I bought it from, they DO have edible fruit and it is quite tasty! Supposedly it is similar to the regular cavendish bananas, only slightly smaller. I do not have personal experience to back this up, but I'd say to go for it....what can you lose? It's a pretty amazing looking plant either way!

I'm not sure i understood the question. but if what you said was do dwarf variates give Small fruit well smaller then there normal sized parent but most of them give a fairly good sized fruit the lady finger has the smallest also the 1000 finger is fairly Small fruit but yes there all worth growing most of the Cavendish variants dwarf or not have good sized fruit i would personally try to stick to bananas that grow well in your zone

well after reading your zone i think you are going to have to stick to some of the winter hardy variates unless you don't mind halling them in and out of the house of if you have a green house that would be better i use artificial lights on my Bananas in the winter and they grow just fine

Im looking for fruit that is a decent sized fruit on a small enough plant that I can take in and out of the house for the seasons. not really looking for small fruit just smaller plants that grow good fruit to eat. Just wondering if the "super Dwarfs" were good fruit-bearers or just mainly ornamental.

Like I said before, I do not have first hand knowledge of this as my plant has not fruited. However, all the reading/research I did prior to buying it said that it produces small bunches of medium to large fruit that are of excellent dessert quality. So I would say, yes, they produce edible bananas, just not quite as many as larger varieties would (make perfect sense, though considering the relative size of the plant).
