Joy What size container do I use?

New Banana here, ordered 2 trees, a dwarf Jamaican red and a dwarf cavendish and my question is what size pot will these things need to end up in? They haven't arrived but they will be indoors most of the year and outdoors over the summer.

Thanks

Well, you should be fine in a 7 gallon pot for a while. Don't start off too terribly huge to begin with since the soil won't dry out well (and you'll get fungus gnats...trust me, not good!). Then once they get pretty big, you can switch them to a larger pot. Eventually, you'll probably want a 15-25 gallon size.

My DC has been in an 18 gallon for a year now and has been doing fine and is easy to move in and out of the house, but I think I will go up to a 30 gallon at the end of the season (maybe sooner) when I go to change the soil. Some say smaller pots (15 gal) are good and swear by them, others will say 30 gal. but the choice is yours, just watch them grow and if they show root stress, pot it up 1 or 2 sizes.

Good Luck!

Shaggy

I have my raja puri in a 45gal smart pot. The roots were wrapping around the bottom even on the 25gal container they were in.

When the ice cream gets big it will be moved into a 65gal

I second the 6 inch.....step up to 10 or 12 inch after that, then final size, at least thats what has worked for me so far....
