Default Room for pups...

I finally separated my 3 banana plants and put them in the ground. I have only 1 question-i will be placeing black mating too stop the weeds from coming up near them-but i DO NOT want to stop the pups! How far around the plant should i leave open for the pups to sprout?

Is this going to be permanent or just for this season? If its for one season, about 1ft will be enough. If it's permanent, black plastic is probably not the best option, or depending on how much additional area you are covering, you could go about 4ft out and then cover the gap between the plastic and the plant with a thick layer of mulch.

And of course if you see any pups trying to get through just cut an opening for them.
