Default AeAe on Ebay Germany

I just discovered this auction, which is running until the 22nd Sept and it's for an Ae Ae.
It's NOT a pup of my plant! And I don't know this guy.
The starting bid would be 200,- €, so quite high, but anyway just wanted to let you guys know.
BTW The seller mentioned in his auction, that he would only ship to Germany, but if you really want it, try to ask. There's no reason why it shouldn't be shipped to other countries...

Wow, thanks for linking it. I'd like to have an AE Ae but i'm not going to spend 200€ for it.... what if it dies a week after I get it ??? LOL
I hope in the future the Ae Ae will become more common here in Europe as it happenend for other cultivars...
I'd like to have a Viente Cohol too....

Me, too! I also want a Viente Cohol.

But AeAe's can't be tissue cultured, so the prices will remain high, even in the US...

Well, I know one Brend, who in 3 years will have so many pups that he will share them with his forum pals and spread the love all over the Europe. Am I right?

In 3 years? I hope to have pups earlier and I will of course share them with you guys. I won't charge 200+ €, but it won't be for free. Maybe I'd start also an ebay auction, but with a lower minimum bid.
But so far, there are no pups available, so just wait and see...

Yup, that's when I decide, whether to start in Italy, Australia, or stay here. And also when I'm gonna put that into practice.
Priority in that order.

Well, at least the mum has to pay for herself, shipping... that's perfectly reasonable.

By the way, I sent an email to the seller of the AeAe and asked some questions.
It's the second pup of the mother, that came three years ago from Thailand. The mother died this spring. The pup offered in the auction is 32 cm at the pstem (I asked, because the auction description said 50 cm height).

-------------------------------------------
I think, I should move somewhere else, but close to Europe to grow some AeAe and sell them.
Maybe the Canary Islands? The climate is good for nanners, even coconuts grow there. But even the islands are a part of Spain, it's not 100% a member of the EU. You still need a phytosanitary certificate to receive plants from there and because it's also not part of the customs union of the EU-countries you may be charged import duty and VAT - at least shippments will be checked by customs.
But it may still be easier to ship them from there to Europe and also cheaper and faster.
I just received some palms from Tenerife, Canary Islands yesterday which I ordered online and there was no sign of any customs procedure. But greek customs are no good reference for customs of other EU-countries - which is one great advantage for me

I got two musas and a palm seedlings from Canaries (Exotic Plants and Foods from the Canary Islands - Canarius) and I didn't need any phytosanitary certificate nor custom's clearace.

As expected, the AeAe wasn't sold yesterday due to the high price (I assume) :-)
But it's back again. This time not as auction. You could buy it for 220,- € (!) or suggest a different price, which the seller may accept!

that's probably where the seller from the german AeAe got it from!

With shipping to EU it'll cost you approx. 85 €, but it doesn't mention if a phytosanitary document is included in the price. If they could provide it, it'll be at least another 20 € extra. Total could be 120,- € (I included an additional 5 € due to the exchange rates losses during payment).

My thinking is, that a fair price for AeAe in Europe could be up to 150 €, considering the demand and the very small offer of the plants here.
But this means that the plants are already in Europe and there's little risk of damage during transport and no delay at customs. Buyers would spend extra for more security, I'm sure.

This seller may be greedy, but he's for sure not familiar with the psychology of ebay! A low starting bid would attract many bidders. If they're in, they may go up high and even higher than the seller is expecting it to sell. But a high starting price doesn't attract anybody. Everybody is waiting for another try with a lower price....

Well, also this time for 220,- € it didn't sell. Now he's trying it for the third time for 199,- € (what a bargain! ).
