Possible banana tree to produce ripe bananas in Greece?
Hi to everyone, im new here just joined
I want to ask if is a way to get ripe bananas direct from the banana plant in my area in Greece! i've seen a lot of banana plants in Greece with small green bananas in the summer time but never see them yellow and big.. it the weather the prob? or maybe people are not caring them enough? or is there a way to get them ?? |

Bananas are hungry and thirsty plants and will be unfruitful if left without feed and water.
Even in my area where there are plantations, some people neglect their home grown bananas and they look miserable. |

Ok when i will plant my banana trees i will take care of them to get some quality of fruit... actually im thinking to do permaculture garden design, i think that will help a lot to grow some quality fruits and vegetables

Hi Symantic,
Yes of course itīs possible to produce ripe fruits in Greece! Itīs only important that you plant them in partial shade because of low humidity in summer. Because most of the soil in Greece is rather sandy it whould be useful to chance the soil at the place you plant bananas against a substrate that contains a high percentage of peat or/and bentonite, so that the soil can keep water easier. Also itīs important to water them regulary at your arid area, or you even install a irrigation system. Best wishes, Markus
