I don't mind some frosty nights, but temperature below freezing for more than two weeks is just too much. With only short freezes you could handle growing bananas and all our loving plants much easier than with our rough climate.
I will post some pictures soon and let you see what I grow. But don't expect very big plants!
They are all still in their childhood.

Oh I'm looking forward to your pics. On teh contrary, I like the temps -7°C whici very common during nights, but those sudden falls above 0°C in winter are dangerous. And waht should I say, when the temps rise in January and February to about 15°C during the day and 5°C during the night? Peaches start to blossom only to freeze later in another frost wave.
I like slow frosts of -3 to -7. Those are most ideal, water freezes, snow freezes, everything freezes and holds temperatures well.
If the temps go above 3°C, snow melts down and then freezes in the night, making it very bad for the roots.

It's that thing that earns in our hills just as much as your beaches in summer.

I hadn't really thought about that. Something hardy, something red.

That pretty much excludes any banana. Either hardy or red.
