I don't know what to say, this is such a shock. I so loved reading his posts and he never knew because I have been so quiet over the last year.

I'm honored to have been able to benefit from his knowledge and humor. My prayers are for his family. May they be comforted now in their time of grief.

Deb

Tog- I was blessed to briefly know you. You were a source of knowledge, humor and collegiality. My prayers for you to find peace, and for your daughter to find solace and growth in your memory. Farewell old new friend. May your trails all be downhill, and without obstruction.

And all the members of the International Banana Society will raise a glass to absent friends.

I haven't read a single condolence I don't whole-heartedly agree with...Tog is surely missed, and in his memory lets all keep planting and sharing more bananas, just as Tog would have kept on doing!

Just got home from a scout meeting and this is a big shock. Tog has been a great friend and I was just thinking yesterday I'd love to go visit the guy some day. On his recent plant trip when he didn't post for a week I grew worried that something had happened to him and it was a great relief when he let me know he was okay and just very busy. So this is hard to understand. I'm a year behind him age wise but I greatly admired his energy and often pictured him losing me in the jungles (10 miles behind!). He took the time to give me the wonderful black bean advice for my son, Michael and we chatted about many other things.

Many of you saw that Tog recently said his favorite movie was Bang Rajan. Well, I bought a copy on eBay last week but that seller refunded my money and said it was out of stock but I found another seller and a copy was mailed on Monday. Needless to say, I'll soon be watching this movie and it will have some very special significance.

Tog, my dear friend, may His face shine upon you!

Love you pal,

Harvey

I know I can not say anything that will stop the sadness in your hearts, but It might be reassuring to know that Tog was extremely well respected here. Not only was he a wealth of knowledge, but he was a true friend to anyone who would talk to him. The world is a less place without him and I believe that he is in a truely greater place right now. Thank you Tog for making this site so great..................................................Go rest high on that mountain lil buddy!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi peeps..

Stefanie here, Tog's daughter. Not sure if it's appropriate to post with his account, but heck, if I created a new one, you guys would probably be confused.

I'm truly touched by this thread and how my dad has inspired you guys in some way or other, be it his knowledge in the reptile n plants industry or his weird/dirty sense of humor or his cigar craze..

Here's a classic picture of me n him

My dad - The camwhore king!

He may or may not know it, but I love him to bits though I've haven't been the best daughter around.. n I sure miss him a whole lot!

Thanks again for the thread guys!!

Stefanie, thank you for posting & showing those fun pics. He was a wonderful man.
May I ask what time it was there when he had his attack? His last post here was Tuesday at 1 pm central which was 2 a.m. your time? He always said he is 13 hours difference (ahead).
You must be very proud of him knowing how many friends he made here who loved him.
Be strong, & another prayer is coming your way for you.

Stephanie, Andrew here. Thank you for contacting me earlier today. I hope it was o.k. as I contacted several members with the news. Your dad was an awesome man! I was shocked when I opened your e-mail. When I got home this evening the Banana book that Tog mailed me last week was in my mail box. As it sits next to my computer as I write this, I am very saddened. Your dad was very generous and would not take any money from me when we spoke about the book last week. I feel privileged to have known him for the short time. He was full of energy and extremely knowledgeable. He also had a sense of humor. His life was cut way too short! My family is thinking of you and wishing you hope in the midst of sorrow, comfort in the midst of pain.

With Heartfelt Sympathy

He will be missed by all!

Although I knew Tog only shortly, I believe it's safe to say that he was one of the most wonderful people I've ever had the pleasure of talking to. I'll surely miss him, not only for the loads of work he had been doing in the tropics, his articles, but also his funny and always joyful humour with which he brought happiness and laughter to many threads and a few PMs I exchanged with him. You'll live forever in our minds, pal.
