Tog asked me to get involved in Ladang Musacea - one of his current dreams, one which he was starting to realise. I was never quite sure what I could contribute, apart from the occasional seeds, but it was nice to be involved from far away. Like many others I was playing with the idea of visiting him in the not too distant future. I love traveling in East Asia, and I have never been to Malaysia. I have been to Thailand and Sri Lanka, and I am going with Phil to Taiwan this year. So I hoped that it would not have been too long before Malaysia would have become reality. I have in person already met two other members of this forum, and I was determined to also meet Tog.

It is very different meeting somebody in reality as to just talking to him by e-mail or on the forum. Maybe we would not have got on..., but Tog: I would have certainly given it a try!!!! :-)

I don't know how many people know that every month Tog was travelling to Thailand to pray to the Four Faced Buddha, something he promised to do till the end of his live.

Without him knowing, the deepest impression he left on me was not anything to do with plants, but about the value of giving. He gave freely, as some of us will have experienced. Of course he was delighted to also 'receive' ('greeding for stuff' as he called it in a funny way), but receiving was not what it seemed all about. Many people including myself are very focused on 'getting' things, but it is little compared with the inner peace one gets from giving. For this I will remember him.

I loved his 'Rocker' T-Shirt. I will keep that picture somewhere, so I will be reminded of him.

Wow, what a shock! It's difficult to know what to write at a time like this. I think it's fair to say he has touched everyone's lives here on the forum, I know he has mine. As Christian said he was such a generous man and was always thinking of other people. On top of that he was a bloody good laugh. I'm truely going to miss him.

yes we will all miss him I'm sure of that. I guess if i had my choice I would rather go quickly too, than dragee it out and be a burden to my family. So he was in god good graces. I ask that knowledge and memories live on with all that were touched by him.

Looking at some pictures on the web today and seeing a Lasiocarpa in flower reminded me of Tog. So every time I see one now he will pop into my thoughts.

Still can't get my head round the fact that he is gone.

Mark- Tog was telling me that, as he was having difficulty receiving e-mails from me, that he also experienced the same thing with you. Hence the high number of PMs. We really lost a friend. As Harvey has mentioned, when we didn't hear from him for a while recently, we were concerned and promised to let each other know as soon as we heard. I wish there would be another good news post from our friend. Stephanie, we may all be a bunch of nutty banana plant fanatics, but we would be honored to have you post here with us in the future. My prayers for you always.....Howard

Stefanie,

Thanks for those great pictures of you and your father! I wonder if you had any idea of the impact that he made in all of our lives, despite never having actually met any of us. Well, you do now! A father to be proud of, for sure! I echo Christian's thoughts when he mentions what a giving man he was. I didn't quite grasp the true nature of it until now. He apparently had many, many friends on this forum! What wasn't to like about the man though? He had one of the best attitudes of anyone I've ever run across.

Like some others have also said, please feel free to join the forum. We won't mind you posting under his name!

Best wishes, and my condolences, to you and your family,
Frank

So sad to hear this, I've read Tog's posts on many forums, this one included and his knowledge and personality was inspirational, and even though I never got to know him on a personal level, this feels very close to home as his posts were wonderful contributions to the community.

Our thoughts are with you all, and Tog will be very much missed by all.

I hope this doesn't come across as inappropriate, but I just keep thinking about our vulnerability, etc. My son, Michael, is only 11 and I can't help but think about how life would be changed for him if I weren't around in a year (when I'd be the same age as Tog). I sure am not in great physical shape like Tog was but I've tested out okay with my doctor. Still, he had me start taking 81mg of aspirin daily because of risk of heart disease in my family. I recall him saying at the time that my most likely sign of heart disease would be a fatal heart attack. Just something I'm thinking about. I wish Tog was here to chat.

We know how you mean it Harvey. Now I guess I'll start calling you old man (I'm 48). I'm going to miss giving him the business and getting it back double as well. In private he often called me " young punk".

Dear Stephanie and family,
I just heard of Tog's passing moments ago. I admired his spirit, passion and sense of humor. I respected his knowledge and loved his story-telling, jokes and joi-de-vivre!
He was a remarkable friend and I will miss him greatly. We were planning to get together when I move to China. Wow, I just can't believe it! My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Feel free to email me if you wish. My email address is in your Dad's address book, or you can click the link in my profile here. We emailed each other frequently. We often played havoc on the threads of others on this board (Tog, Lorax and me - with some other accomplices from time to time) but all in good fun. In fact, he was one of the reasons that I kept checking into this site.
Yes, he was one in a million!!! Take care old friend, I will see you when I get there.
Scot
