The Wiki Link
I suggest that the "Wiki" link in the Blue Bar be connected with the wiki table-of-contents (All Articles) page: All articles - Bananas Wiki instead of the current location. I think it would also help if what is currently titled "Main page" is retitled "Page for Editors". Finally, on what is currently titled "Main page" it would help if the obscure link "List of Bananas" was retitled "Table of Contents".

Re: The Wiki Link
From what I recall from an old discussion with Jarred on the wiki, editing some of the structure was difficult. At the time I had asked for an easy link to get back to the forum. I do wish it was faster to get to the list of bananas.

Re: The Wiki Link
Knowing the software package this site runs on, what I have suggested below is an easy change. If the one of the moderators could make it, that would be great.

Re: The Wiki Link
I didn't think the wiki was part of vBulletin, but I'm not sure where I got the idea. I know Jarred has added many things into the forum that are not part of vBulletin. I don't think that the role of a moderator is to make changes like that so I doubt any of them will do it. Jarred is busy but is apparently getting more sleep these days and is checking in pretty regularly.

Can it be simply bookmarked?

Re: The Wiki Link
Yes, but the problem is that many new users don't know how to get to the table of contents. It would be simpler for everyone if the 'blue bar' Wiki link connected to the table of contents instead of the editors page.

Re: The Wiki Link
Yeah, I didn't even know about that page linked in the initial post. And actually, I still have no clue how to get there, so I bookmarked it for now. My main complaint on the wiki page was that there is no link back to the site.
PS...what's with the rude comments guys....let's keep it respectful, please.

Re: The Wiki Link
I just took a look at the Wiki, specifically the list of bananas, and frankly, I was shocked on how poor it looked. Over 4 entries on AeAe bananas, where 1would do. No editing of content was evident.
For the Wiki to have value, it must have some organization in order to collect all of the data in one spot. For me to read about a banana (and I'll use Ae Ae as an example) I should find it in one entry, not multiple species...... or am I missing something? BTW, I do not blame moderators for this type of issue. Wikis are notorious for bad editing as anyone with a password can do it, hence the lack of organization and control. It is this group that must take responsibility for the Wiki to have a standard look and feel, along with good and reasonable content.

Re: The Wiki Link
John, I believe there are 11 listings for Musa Ae Ae in total some due to not listing it under Musa and others because of combining Ae Ae together to form AeAe, etc. However, they all redirect to the same page so I've never seen it as much of a problem.
I've never seen evidence that moderators do any changes to the structure of the wiki or the forum. I find the wiki very useful even with the duplicate listings as I just need to find one name I'm looking for and it takes me to the page for it and the content is generally pretty good. Sometimes I've added the photos of others to a wiki page if I am aware that it is short on photos. I also try to remember to consider adding my own photos to a wiki when I'm posting them to the forum, but I often forget about it. When my Ae Ae flowers (hopefully this summer), I'll surely take plenty of photos and post them to the forum as well as the wiki. I believe a lot of the hardiness claims of some cultivars is exaggerated and some editing should be done there. Many people get some plants to survive in zone 8 which have died for me in zone 9 but only with a lot of protection and that's not really an appropriate zone rating, in my opinion. For that matter, I think the psuedostem should survive the winter to get rated for a particular zone, not just the corm. That might not matter for ornamental bananas but it's critical for those of us that are trying to get fruit. I wish there was a way we could work together as a team to make things more uniform. Thanks, Harvey |

Richard has chosen not to allow PMs. I don't think my comment was rude at all but deleted it.

Re: The Wiki Link
the wiki has been an ongoing project for me. iv spent months editing and adding to the many Bananas the wiki is 10 times better then it use to be i my self have added some listings that are not as yet complete because the variety is so new that we do not know any thing about its life cycle for example the HY Brazilian Scot and My self are the only ones that have it out side of the FHIA sorry if I'm a bit irritated on this but i have a fairly high frustration level going on in regards to this don't get me wrong i like writing in the Wiki but it is a big job! also ongoing as new info comes available all the time so the wiki can never be complete as for multiple listings i wanted to delete some of those but i felt a bit guilty and if you notes the Ae Ae for example each one is written out in a different way so technically they are correct listings and as was pointed out they all go to the same page iv been working on several that theres just no info on but the listing were i have edited say that in the body of the texts also iv left construction notices were I'm working to let you all know its undergoing editing i think one of the real problems is that the format of the pages them selves could be a hole lot better much of the texts could be housed in smaller pages well iv digressed now so all leave it to you all to hammer out but remember before you all go criticizing the wiki their are those among us that have worked there butts of trying to fix it

Re: The Wiki Link
Before we wander too far here, I would like to reiterate my request that in the blue bar at the top of nearly every page, the "Wiki" link points to
All articles - Bananas Wiki and not Main Page - Bananas Wiki

Re: The Wiki Link
Wiki link in blue bar has been updated to the more proper location.
Thanks for all your dedication to our wiki everyone. It's your wiki, make the most of it. BTW, we run the same wiki software that wikipedia runs.

Re: The Wiki Link
Yeah, I really can't complain...there is some excellent information in the wiki pages! Sure, some areas have blanks, but what's there is amazing! Thanks for all the work and dedication to everyone who had input there! Glad you all shared your knowledge!
Oh...and I figured out a good way to get from the wiki back to the site! Click on User CP then go to the forums from there! It'd still be nice to have a link, but that works well anyway!
