Dunno if you can, ultimately - they are big palms. I've seen them in +/- 25 gallon pots and be roughly 4-5' tall (to the tallest frond).

Joy Re: bismarck pam

Hi J, I think it's the cold that the seedling looks like this. Remember the Bismarkia nobilis is a hot growing palm. I had one which I kept in the ground for 9 yrs and it grew to a trunk diameter of 24 inches. The leaves were almost 7ft in diameter. I had to leave it there when I moved house.

This is a very big palm and once it takes off, there is no way you can control the height/size. It normally breaks the pot as it grows.

Over here, in good growing condition, they get HUGE. I have seen 50ft specimens. Stunning. Currently it is a very popular landscape plant. If you like silver leaved types maybe you should go for the smaller species like the Brahea armata, Sabal X Texensis which is a hybrid or Nannorhops arabica. They all have equally stunning silver foliage but very manageable.

We grow B. nobilis here. This palm is not suitable for pots of any size. It has a long tap root and an extensive root system. I would recommend another choice. Better selections would be many of the Chamaedorea species, as they do not get large and can be moved inside or out, depending on the weather or your choice.
