Re: Chambeyronia Macrocarpa Palm
They're common boulevard trees here. Until that develops mature fronds (which will be pronouncedly pinnate) it should be kept in about 50% shade, and make sure the soils have good drainage without compacting. Other than this, very easy to grow, and very attractive when it's larger.

Re: Chambeyronia Macrocarpa Palm
Yes, I can agree with this. I grew mine from seed and untill now (2 years) it's doing fine. It's hard to kill it. A little frost in the first winter didn't kill it. Some days with almost no water survived.
But anyway it's growing very slow... |

Re: Chambeyronia Macrocarpa Palm
Mine looks the same! And I haven't had a red leaf always. I think if you don't treat the palm perfect, the new leafs won't be red. I had both.
By the way, do you have the "hookeri" cultivar? |

Re: Chambeyronia Macrocarpa Palm
I had mine outside in the pot the last two winters and was doing quite well in my 9a climate. Only a few times I put it inside, but it went through light freezes with no problem. I would plant it in the ground in a 9b climate.
I almost didn't fertilize it all the time. This summer the leaves got quite yellow quickly, so I bought a fertilizer with high Mg and the little palm liked it. I hope the new leaves will stay greener. This winter it grew quite fast inside my greenhouse. Good luck to all growers of this beautiful palm. I love the new leaves when they unfold. |
