Default Cold hardy Cacti in pots!

We will be living in Wilmington NC pretty soon which is a warmer zone 8 NC then where we are now. Most of my cacti I grew in the ground in Ohio. So they have not been living in pots more then a year. Question is that as long as the soil in the pots can drain perfect then the cactus should be able to live outside no problem in the pots. I would keep them under something for the rain most likely. They survived living in my unheated garage in ohio, Which got done to zero and below for a couple weeks. Then just plan cold all last year for the winter. Thanks

When I lived in Lex.,KY I left out under the edge of the roof three pot's of Cacti that was no way hardy in my zone. They probably couldn't have taken below 20 if they weren't covered. They survived down to 3f, three times, but no frost could touch them. The only time they were brought in was when he got a half foot of snow and I knew it would reach them.

Okay that sounds good then man!! Coldest it has gotten here was 16*. Which was very strange and never got that cold before, now days anything is possible. Well I can leave them in my garage which has a window and two small windows on the garge door and back door. So temps would be a few degrees better and they would get light. What would you do? Thanks again!

I would think you would be fine, but you may want to keep the in the gararge by the window. I never thought to do that in KY even though my garage had a back window. I just put them in their that one time overnight and then put them back outside i the morning after the snow had stopped.

What kind were they by the way? I think to play it safe to make sure they don't rot from rain. I will keep them in the garage,as winters here it tends to rain alot since there is no snow. Better safe then sorry
