Florida tree and palm IDs.
The first one is a tree, in Fort Lauderdale. I was told it was a Florida native. The leaf is about 5 inches long, and rough; kind of like a cow's, or a cat's tongue. The seed pods are about an inch long. There are clusters of little orange flowers, each about the size of a dime. The trees appeared to be quite severly damaged from the recent cold weather.
The next two are palms. I only have the seeds, and I don't know if they can be identified from just that. |

Re: Florida tree and palm IDs.
There's no size reference like a zippo lighter to see how big the seeds are. If they are in the same pic are they all from the same tree? The Tongue tree is listed in florida trees. I saw it a couple weeks back but didn't keep the link.

Re: Florida tree and palm IDs.
The Geiger tree seems right; thanks. I'll try to get some better pictures of the palm seeds. They are actually two different ones. The seed pod/fruit of the ones in the top photo are about half the size of those in the lower photo.

Re: Florida tree and palm IDs.
The last picture looks like the seeds of the Christmas palm (Adonidia merrillii). Very tropical palm, commonly planted in S. Florida. A very rare palm to find in So Cal though.

Re: Florida tree and palm IDs.
Cordia sebestina, Roystonia regia, and the Christmas Palm ( I don't know genus and species) but is is asian in origin. Cordia sebestina is native to the Caribbean and South Florida, and Rostonia regia is the Cuban form of Royal Palm.
I hope this helps! |
