Great thread on salts, very informative. The Ironite I heard on another forum contains lead. Anyone heard of this?
The formulation of Ironite has changed over the years. It is now more of a fertilizer than an iron supplement. It does have trace amounts of heavy metals, but this is not uncommon.

Gardener972, for your blossom end-rot, put powdered gypsum or the "soil buster" product sold at box stores around your plants: 2 cups worth in each 2-foot by 2-foot area (hopefully there is just one plant in this space, if not space them out next time!). Now cover the gypsum product with at least 2 inches of "half-baked" compost -- in the compost tea making stage. If you can't get the half-baked stuff, buy a bag of Kellogg's N'Rich or Gromulch from a big box store. Water this down in the morning and give yourself a gold star for the day. Now water your tomato plants only once every 3 days, but enough so that it will soak in and last (with the mulch protecting against drying out too much) until the next watering. Make sure the water covers the entire 2' by 2' area around each plant.
