giant Atlantic Pumpkin - Page 2

I started an Atlanic giant in a SWC last year (the same one I'm using in the pics for my watermelon this year) and made a mistake with fertilizer and killed it. Your not going to get that big in a container. I was trying for 50-100lbs.

I had some giant pumpkins growing, they were already basketball size, but they were eaten by javelinas. The same thing occurred last year with my watermelons and pumpkins. I guess it's time to go javelina hunting again.

i only started them in pots origanaly i pland on trasplating but they did not make it so i started new ons there in the garden not pots

Yes they don't like transplanting. Technically I probably could have got it to 50lbs, the watermelon was very vigorous and it was even reusing the same dirt. Its slowing down now that its almost ripe and the plant looks kinda old. Its on day 63 right now out of probably 70 max. Almost bigger than the one I got at the store.

Not really tasty, but alot of people make javelina jerky which is ok tasting.
I usually just haul em off to the desert for coyote food.

will do it shouldn't be long they have male flowers now so I'm sure the female flowers are just a few days away

as of this week i have 4 good sized pumpkins on the vine all pinch off any more that start so the ones that are there get bigger man thees plants are prolific fruiter's no fruit on the Water melons yet that i can see but that doesn't mean there aren't any as it hard to tell the Star and moons vines are really dense growers lots of flowers they all look male to me but I'm not that familiar its easy to tell the difference on the pumpkins as the female flowers have a large ovary at the base pictures later this week end its to hot to go out now so all do it in the morning tomorrow o by the way thees things have to be watered two times a day ones at 6am and again around 1ish they start to wilt
I'm sure when the fruit gets bigger I'm going to have to water more
