Default Grape-blogs?

Does anyone know of any decent Grape blogs similiar to this Awsome site? I have a few questions which i have asked before on this site w/unclear answers, but i shall ask them again! I have been growing four kinds of Grapes in my backyard-NIAGARA/CATAWBA/CONCORD/SEEDLESS CONCORD and my main question is this! I have been growing them about 4 years now-they are growing on 1 side of my car-port up some chicken wire and they do quite well-so then i decided too put 24-24inch long Agrosun grow lights on the underneath side of carport roof and train the Grapevines to grow underneath the roof (on chicken wire) i also put a misting system under there! I have yet to get any flowers/buds/grapes on the underneath side-so come spring i will be ripping the roof off the car-port and putting on clear corrugated plastic roofing (to simulate a greenhouse) CAN I EXPECT GRAPES TOO GROW UNDERNEATH ROOF (the total height of the vines would be like 8-10feet tall) OR DO GRAPES ONLY GROW UP A VINE SAY 4-5FEET?
THANX-A-MIL!

Default Re: Grape-blogs?

Yes, they will grow. But, you must prune them and I would eliminate the misters. These will create moisture in the shade, so downy and powdery mildew may form.

There are Yahoo groups for Grape growing. You will find lots of help there. Grapes really like full sun and lots of air movement. Once you learn how to prune them, they will produce. Otherwise they will grow wild with little fruit production. All of the plant energy goes into production of vegetative mass and root development. The best grapes need to struggle.

Many grapes are have imprefect flowers, so it may be a matter of determining the sex of your plants to make sure that you have both male and female. Wild Riparia grape plants are this way.
