Gunnera Manicata - When is the best time to divide pups?
My gunnera manicata has developed several pups on each mother bulb and I want to produce new plants so when would it be OK to take them off without either harming the mother and getting a division that survives? They grow almost the same way as bananas except they stay very close to the ground.
Here's my giant rhubarb. [IMG][/IMG]

Re: Gunnera Manicata - When is the best time to divide pups?
Not sure but I edited the thread title to put in "Gunnera Manicata - " so that it might catch the attention of someone else who has grown this or other Gunneras.
I tried growing a gunnera once but they turned to mush (I killed them). I'm the last person to give advice about keeping them, lol. Good luck though, they are nice...

Re: Gunnera Manicata - When is the best time to divide pups?
Well they look like they grow a lot like EE's or calocasia. I did a couple successfully divisions. The main thing I did was make sure to keep the soil around the one I was dividing intact as much as possible so when put someplace else it had less transition time. :^)

Re: Gunnera Manicata - When is the best time to divide pups?
This plant has doubled in size since that last picture and the pups are clearly growing on their own now, but I don't want to take off any pups now which might slow its growth momentum, so I might wait until spring to pull a few off. It should be pretty huge by the end of the season.
