Hedychium Longicornutum
Is anyone out there growing this beautiful Ginger? It is never seen for sale in the UK so I thought one of you would be growing it across the water. Is it available in the U.S????

Re: Hedychium Longicornutum
I have it. It is available at times but you really have to look for it. I think if I recall correctly I got mine about 7-8 years ago from Tropiflora

Re: Hedychium Longicornutum
Yes it flowers. I don't know if I can find the photos, they are old and on a disc somewhere. I'll look. If I catch it again this season I'll take a new pic. Its not a greenhouse plant anymore, its somewhere out in the yard.

Re: Hedychium Longicornutum
Ive bin searching for a long time to this Hedychium. Did buy a few but it wasn't the longicornutum, but a Hedychium ellipticum or horsfieldii. If anyone knows where to get the real one.....i'm going to be very happy.

Re: Hedychium Longicornutum
A short note from someone who lives in the country where it is found... It is not a common plant here and found only in undisturded foothill forest. I have a 10+ yr old clump growing as an epiphyte on one of my Jasmine shrub. It was collected from Northern Peninsular Malaysia by my friend. As I live in the city, it is much hotter and it flowers only infrequently. It is a real stunner when it does flower.

Re: Hedychium Longicornutum
Mark, I just got news from my Orang Asli collector that there are another 3 different types/species of epiphytic ginger from a certain area. One has white flower like the H longicornutum and the other two with flowers like the H coronarium. Of these two, 1 is white and the other has a yellowish centre. He says the roots are thick like the H longicornutum. He can't get to the area as it is still raining like crazy up till now. I can't find any ref on these. I will post pix when he gets them for me. They are foothill plants and are cool growing.

Re: Hedychium Longicornutum
No worries, I know the place where the H longicornutum is plentiful. They grow at about 2,000ft asl so it's ideal for your place. Be a little patient, I will go to that place soon.
