I have a new plant, a zebra rush. It only has a few stems, but I hope to increase its size. Anyone with experience with it? Thanks.

Zebra rush is the common name of Schoenoplectus (formerly Scirpus) lacustris ssp. tabernaemontani 'Zebrina'. It is a member of the bull rush family and very easy to grow. It will put up more leaves over time. I used to grow it in my water garden when I lived in St. Louis and I kept it in about a 5 gallon pot. It would grow to be about 5-6feet tall for me. Keep it in a pot unless you want it to roam!

Thanks Brent. I re-potted it in a smallish pot because it was loose in the one it came with. My pond is liner with stones; all of my plants are in pots. It seems so fragile now. I'll just leave it alone until it (hopefully) needs re-potting into a larger pot.

If anyone has any other questions/problems, etc. concerning pond plants this thread seems to be the place to post them.

No problem, Howard. Trust me, you won't be thinking of it as "fragile" for much longer! Just wait until it gets established in it's pot. I'd start looking for a bigger pot now if I were you.

I used to have a large water garden (13'x7') at my house when I was in St. Louis with many plants in it. I also cared for a collection of hardy water lilies and hardy aquatiec while I was at the Missouri Botanical Garden. It was always one of my favorite gardens to tend. Water gardening can really be fun, especially when you get the full experience of plants, fish, frogs, dragonflys, water striders, etc. I even had a baby painted turtle in my pond for a while.
