My Yucca Ruined !!
May have mentioned before, have a place in Jerez Spain. Since we purchased I have desparately been trying to grow Banana's there (England, Great) but Spain no good - mainly because we are unable to water them through the (very) long dry summer. Had same sort of problems too with a lot of my other plants - with one exception a YUCCA. Bought it for 3 Euro's about 3 years ago and it has, sorry had, really taken off - see photo : We also have a caretaker who "keeps the grass under control" who obviously gives the work to Spanish locals (I presume - cost effective) Unfortunately, a somewhat over zealous local who decided to "trim" my Yucca, or rather my pride and joy. See Photo : As you can imagine distraught is not the word. It actually looks better than it is - the different angle does it way too much justice. PPS Yes, the first photo was taken in January 2009 and the second last week (notice sunshine !!!) Phil Growing Bananas in the UK |

Re: My Yucca Ruined !!
I don't know much about them, but it does look good. Will it grow back more vigorously since the pruning?

Re: My Yucca Ruined !!
They always grow back! Just give it some time and tell the gardeners to to leave it alone.

Re: My Yucca Ruined !!
One person's desire is another's disdain. I would have fed it large doses of herbicide long ago. One thing is for certain: it will grow back and with a root mass that greatly exceeds the size of the plant

Re: My Yucca Ruined !!
I tried to dig out a yucca once. Notice I said "tried" and "once". I couldn't believe how large the root-mass was; almost like a tuber. And secondly, it was covered in what looked like bark! Not fun.

Re: My Yucca Ruined !!
Phil, you should take it as a blessing in disguise. They always come back better. If you are keen enough, you should nick it on the stem and it will produce off shoots. They look real cool with multiple heads. What I did with my first yucca was I kept trimming off the leaves and it kept getting taller trying to keep up with me!
