That's awesome.
Start it from a store bought pineapple?

I had pretty good success one time using the pineapple top to start a plant, but the next 2 failed.

Nice job!

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

Did you grow them in water to root, or straight into soil?

I cut the top off the pineapple then I pull off the yellow part then peel off a dozen or so leaves around the stem to clear an inch or so of stem inside then soak in water a couple weeks. Keep the water fresh by changing it every couple days. I have not had one not root this way.

I have read on here that sugarloaf is a good one. Is it full sized fruit? What about white jade?

I've had the weirdest time rooting these. Fist one I tried - BINGO! within 2 weeks new fresh roots. The last 2 - nothing!

It just rots away. Can't figure it out for the life of me.

if starting from store bought pineapples make sure when you buy the pineapple that the crown is in good shape and has no brown leaves and all the center leaves are still green and be sure to make sure the center hasn't been drilled out

when rooting the crown don't start it in water... get you a 1 gallon pot fill it with potting soil than put the crown in the soil lightly water the soil and around 4 to 6 weeks it should root....be sure not to let the soil dry out but don't over water it or it will rot

My guess is they got the ones that are drilled... One brand drills theirs so you can't grow your own, like they lose much money that way... greed.

I have a white jade, I think,(can't remember) it said it's commonly grown in Hawaii, sweet and coreless. It should flower this year as it was a rooted slip a year ago and it looks like it will, reaching for the sky... Not so big yet, though. In a 4 gallon clay pot.
