picked up a nice jelly palm
It's that time of year. Palms in my area are 50% off so I went out and picked up a few things. This butia was quite a bit larger than the rest and it was the only one with this color. The petioles are close to the color of Bismarkia with nice bright green leaves. The pictures almost do it justice.
Excuse the messy garden it is a work in progress. |

Re: picked up a nice jelly palm
Great pics! I never realized until now what deals could be had on palms this time of year. I just got a 5' trachycarpus fortunei for $130 that's what we pay a foot around here for one that size in May.

Re: picked up a nice jelly palm
Yes I always hold out for sales when buying palms from local nurseries. I was looking at a butia early this year that was smaller in size and in bad shape from lack of care. The guy at the nursery offered to come down to $80 on that one and I passed. I paid $65 for the one pictured.

Re: picked up a nice jelly palm
Correct. That is pretty much the only Butia they sell around here. There are many more palms that can be grown here than there are available locally. I am hoping that will change as more and more people are planting palms.
