Should I separate these papayas plants?

Several months ago I got a pot of Solo papayas, 3 to a pot. They're a little taller now. Would separating them, 1 to a pot, be better for growth? They're in my garage under grow light, they don't appear to be too healthy, I think I haven't watered them enough. The plumerias are sprouting new leaves like crazy though.

They are planted three to a pot for a reason.

When they first flower, the healthiest hermaphrodite plant is kept and all the others are cut back. I've been doing something like this with peppers, tomatoes etc.

Works like a charm and if one dies, there are others to replace it too, not every seedling will survive.
