Snake in the Roebilini
When you are down on the ground pulling weeds it pays to look up once in a while. Here's another black racer not content with ground level foraging. Like the cornsnake I found nose to nose in a Goldfinger bunch in the dead male flowers.
Got him on the ground, pinned him with a stick and tossed him over the fence like all the rest. This must be the 40th snake I caught in 4.5 years in PSL, FL. Last edited by bananimal : 09-23-2009 at 07:17 AM. Reason: snake |

Re: Snake in the Roebilini
wow. that's one long snake! I would be creeped out if I was nose to nose with one and i didn't know if it was venomous or not. I love snakes but when they start showing fangs, that's when I get the heck outta dodge! LOL

Re: Snake in the Roebilini
Awesome! Black Racers are pretty cool snakes. We caught two in my Field Herpetology class and raced them. LOL...it was awesome! They are pretty fast....it's a fitting name!

Re: Snake in the Roebilini
They're great but just a little too hyper ! They go nutty sometimes & just wanna bite everything! Fun though ! Bull snakes are even better! Found one during a Scout outing. Almost made a pet out of it But luv hybernating armadillas even more. Scout master didnt like it much though. He found it in his sleeping bag !!

Re: Snake in the Roebilini
I wish someone had advised me to look up when I'm in the yard. Check out the pic I posted in my gallery. There was another one even bigger than the one in my pic. It to is a black racer. Gosh how I hate snakes

Re: Snake in the Roebilini
Don't like ssssssssssssssssssnakes! I can't even type the word, it makes me shiver and grimace just .... oh, i can't go on.
I'm thinking of getting the overhanging tree branches from the neighbor's yard pruned. It hangs just overhead into mine and I've a large fern I hung on it a month or so ago that I fuss (mist) with several times a day. After reading this thread, I'm spooked about snakes in the grass, overhead, hiding in the plants. I'm not stepping out there without first poking each plant and the grass with a vvvvvvvvvvery long stick. I did this morning. I would die of fright if i ever have a close encounter with these things. don't care how big, small, nonpoisonous. sorry, they're just creepy. I can't even watch the video below. nope, ain't gonna click on that button. no siree!

Re: Snake in the Roebilini
here's a chilling thought.
there have been reported instances where these creatures (i can't say the S word anymore today .....brrrrrrrrrr!) crawled up plumbing pipes and out through your toilet. yeah, creepy but too true. large ones ... now, i''ve completely freaked myself out. note to self: don't forget to put 50lb weight on toilet seat tonight before going to bed. P.S. to self: keep light on!

Re: Snake in the Roebilini
ROFL ROFL!!!!!! Totally Luv'd the surprise ending!! Super Thanx , Simply Bananas!!
But Luv'd the one about Fluffy, the Reticulated Python, even better!! That one was at the bottom when the 1st video ended!! Pythons are beautiful snakes & that one was huge. Anyone who didnt watch that video, should. It gives lots of great info on Reticulated Pythons with close-ups of the sign near it's pen!! Snakes make great pets, I've had 2 so far (including a Bull snake)! Rattlers are really pretty but they're more for eating. If anyone's interested, I've got a great recipee for Rattlesnake (tastes a little like chicken). Fried Rattlesnake Start with a freshly killed snake. Have a deep skillet of hot oil standing by. Skin the snake (can use the skin for crafts)! Cut the meat into 3 & 4 inch pieces. Roll the pieces in a mixture of flour, corn meal, milk, & egg. Add salt & pepper (can experiment with spices if you like). Deep fry in the hot oil. Serve hot! Great with taters and crisscross buns with honey! Last edited by Eric : 09-25-2009 at 02:16 PM. Reason: Adding recipee. |
