![]() Hey Snarkie - I was checking out the Dawn Redwood reserve you have set up, very cool!!!
I have a little property with a few forest clearings that might be just the ticket for a DR. Do you know of any Canadian sources for plants off the top of your head? I did a bit of searching and didn't find much, so I thought I would check with the expert.

![]() Hi Mike-
We got all of ours from Heritage Seedlings (as well as a few private and randomly purchased commercial trees to help with diversification), but they are the wholesaler to wholesalers. The only online source I know of is Coldwater Creek Nursery. IDK if they ship to CAN or not. If you can find some, they should do very well; the tallest and biggest dawn redwoods in the world are just a couple hundred miles south in Corvallis, OR. I was also amazed to see a huge honking giant sequoia in Vancouver. It had to be fifteen feet in diameter. Thanks to Dearly Depotted for seeing this and emailing me; I would have missed it for quite some time. You can PM me or email directly to the contact email on the site: dawnredwoods@cs.com for the fastest response. Doug

![]() Hey Doug -
Excellent, I will look into it and see if they have any arrangements with anyone up here. Corvallis, eh! I lived there for about 10 years, long time ago now, don't remember anything about DR trees, but then I was more into beer than plants at that time ![]() I think they might do well up here as our property is often quite wet and within their climate range so it might be a good match. I have only seen DR once that I remember at the Hoyt Arboretum in Portland. Small but very pretty. A lot of people grow sequoias up here, they seem to do well and I have seen a few big ones, but nothing like their Californian brethren...absolutely amazing trees. Thank you very much for the info, greatly appreciated, I will let you know what I find out.

![]() They are at the Peavey Arboretum. You can't miss them; they're approaching 200 feet!

![]() They look like they are descended from the Type Tree in Moudao; with the more rounded crown. That last one looks like it got snapped when it was younger, to grow back with dual trunks like that. Thanks for the pics!

![]() i already deleted them because they were not my own pictures...
if you search maps for 111 pacific avenue then go slightly south of that building (to the right when you are looking at 111) there is a driveway and when you look down it you will see 3 dawn redwoods in front of the building (actual address: 66 oakmount) i have ordered plants from Perry (flora exotica) before... if i cant successfully germinate a velutina i might buy one from him eventually check out all the other sections of the site like exotic fruits, exotic fragrances etc... but dont get too carried away! |
