Starfruit anyone?
Has anyone had any luck growing Starfruit, particularly in the Southwest? When Starfruit season comes, I plan to pick some up from an asian market and grow them from the seeds. So I just want to hear everyone's experiences with this tree and its growing habits.

Re: Starfruit anyone?
I would be interested in growing some in the future, but how large do the trees get? I really want to find somewhere that sells starfruit around here, and if not, I'll grow my own! If they get too large, I'll bonsai it and eat mini bite-sized starfruit

Re: Starfruit anyone?
Carambola grows well in temperature areas of the southwest where there are no hard freezes. For extended periods over 95 F it does better with shade. It can be grown as a large multi-trunk shrub or a modest size tree. The cultivar 'Arkin' is excellent. When grown from seed you will usually get an o.k. tasting fruit, but sometimes something terrible or fantastic. Expect 5 to 7 years to yield first crop when grown from seed.
