Arrested for gardening?
Yes, it is true. But how can this be? We now have to call our city before planting a garden? I am sad now what is the world coming to?

Re: Arrested for gardening?
Different article. They could beat the system by asking a few neighbors to plant some veggies in their front yards thereby making it common.

Re: Arrested for gardening?
Well in that small town Oak Park, if I had lived there I would make some sort of Potager du Roi! Well with vegetables you can make a very ornamental garden! Much nicer for the eye then a boring lawn.
Just to see what they are going to to next! Alexander |

Re: Arrested for gardening?
As ridiculous as it sounds, it happens frequently. I was the president of our co-op townhouse development in NY, and we had an existing rule that all vegetable gardens had to be behind the buildings; they could not be in the front. You could have flowers and shrubs and trees (if small enough to fit) in front, but no veggies. Now remember, this was a co-op, so all residents had the rules given to them before they joined the co-op. As far as I know, it never had to be enforced, but it still stood when I moved. By the way, my 2 vegetable gardens were behind my building and another one was off the co-op property.

Re: Arrested for gardening?
Yes, in our town, one of my customers was in trouble and received several notices because his cannas were "too close to the street" even though they were behind the sidewalk and there was grass between the sidewalk and the street. He was told that they were blocking vision because he lives on the corner lot and they thought someone would pull out onto the busy street because of the cannas blocking their vision.
He was told that if he plants his cannas in the same place next year he will be fined and that he has to keep them down to three feet this year.
