I am the owner of a very ancient book that relates the trip of a french naturalist in America...In the book there are a lot of engravings of areas and Iwould know how they are now ...I begin with New York:

The round building, to the left in the first sketch, is, I believe, Castle William, a fortification built in the 1800s, on Governors' Island, off the southern tip of Manhattan, and near the Statue of Liberty. It is still there.
