There's no better way to learn the language, than use drastic means. As a person from the latter generation, when the phisical punishments were abolished, I must admit, that my generation is much more lazy and stupid... Just an observation.

Here's a poem about English I first saw decades ago, perhaps one of you knows the author?

I take it you already know

"Amy Walker" was excellent, though she needs work on her Texas and South Carolina accents. She did many of them convincingly, the California was very well done.

Good morning!

I had only listened to the Russian accent video once, (now twice), since my ability to understand Russian is not good. It has been 25 years since I have spoken that language. More recently, a few years ago when a friend was teaching me Slovacian she told me I speak Slovacian like a Russian.

I could hear the differences in the accents but many of the niuances were lost on me. I am certainly not the best person (or anywhere near it) to get a good opinion on that accents video. I did enjoy it.

It's the Japanese "Don't Laugh" show. Basically, a group of comedians become high school students for a day & whatever funny encounters they experience, they must not laugh or they get caned. The entire show was on youtube before & it was SO HILARIOUS! Unfortunately, it's been taken off.

Yes there are definiately better ways of learning another language!

I prefer the "immersion" method. When you are forced (not physically) to listen and speak, as in going to a store and buying things where your primary language is not spoken, to be very effective.

When I was at a previous University, I had some friends from Saudia Arabia, UAE, Kuwait and Egypt, that taught me much more Arabic than I could ever learn in classroom. They also taught me things I would never learn in classroom! We had many good laughs!

There's no need for learning Arabic here, 'cause there aren't many Arabic speaking people here. Neither do we have connections with Middle East or Arabia, so it was kinda out of the question for me.
But I could never understand, how is it possible for them to write with atrament, when they go over the text with their hand (when they are right-handed).

Some of my friends are Arabic though. Funny language.

Arabic is the Toughest language I've ever used. Some of the sounds are very gutteral and from the back of the throat.

Learning to read it was very challanging, well for me anyway. Now I am very much out of practice. If you don't use it, you loose it.
