Favorite Christmas Recipe
Wishing you all a very happy Christmas. I mean that sincerely.
Here is a recipe for pecan pie that is absolutely the BEST pecan pie I have ever eaten. Growing up in Alabama I have eaten a lot of pecan pie! Try this one and see what you think. 1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell 1/4 cup light corn syrup 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed 1/2 cup Pet milk 1/2 cup softened butter 1 cup chopped pecans 3/4 cup granulated sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 3 eggs 1/4 cup pecan halves 1/4 teaspoon salt Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine brown sugar and butter in upper part of double boiler. Beat smoothly together. Add granulated sugar and mix thoroughly. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Add salt, syrup and Pet milk. Mix well. Cook over boiling water, stirring 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in chopped pecans and vanilla. Pour into prepared pie shell. Bake 1 hour. Pull out oven shelf and scatter pecan halves on top of pie and return to oven and bake 5 minutes longer. Let it cool and DIG IN. (If the edges of the pie shell start to get too brown before the pie is done then cover just the edge with aluminum foil). If you try it let me know what you think. Terry I'm on the "edit" page and there are two columns for the ingrediants but when it's posted the two colunms are jammed together. Why is that? Last edited by Chance1945 : 12-22-2011 at 03:21 PM. Reason: Not all ingrediants are there |

Re: Favorite Christmas Recipe
I've never heard of putting mustard greens in dressing. I LOVE mustard so I'll try that.
I remember growing up the smell of sage during the holiday cooking. Whoever made the dressing always put lots and lots of sage. |

Re: Favorite Christmas Recipe
Yeah the smell is off the chart! Part of the joy of home cooking.
One small thing we change is adding water chestnuts instead of regular chestnuts. It changes the flavor profile a little (less earthy) but the texture is really nice with the crunchy water chestnuts. |
