"Research Institutes" can range from large establishments with buildings, employees, etc. to non-profit entities set up by a professor or two with their university to foster interaction with the commercial world and generally engage in enterprise. This particular institute is in the second category, although the professor in question is very reputable and is presently Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Maryland: Biography - Dr. Thomas Fretz

I was reviewing some their scientific journals this morning. Seems to be legit stuff. Just thought it might be interesting/useful to some in our group.
