I was awake last night until around 5:30 AM, after the paper boy had already delivered the Washington Post. Awoke around 4 hours later when the guys started mowing my lawn. This is regular sleeping problem for me, as anyone who looks at my posting times will know.

It's not illness related in my case, but I do spend many nights awake. Just awful lot of work, hobbies and insufficient amount of ladies in my bed that would tire me up.

Nighttime is ideal for working (in my case) because everybody else sleeps and I get all the silence and peace I could wish for.

Now Jack, you didn't think I would let this go by without comment, did you? ".... and insufficient amount of ladies in my bed that would tire me up." I think that well may be my problem too. As you all know, men are widely known for falling asleep right afterwards when she wants to cuddle and talk! And I'm not even talking about the possibility that you meant more than one at the same time.

Hiya Re: Insomnia Thread...

You guys are too funny!

Just be sure you don't have too many ladies in your bed or you might end up in this situation, where you might need a little reminding...

I had trouble sleeping last night and tossed and turned for a couple hours as usual, but it wasn't from a lack of ladies in my bed!

Nope, for me it was because I'm excited about weekend plans, and had to get up early this morning to meet the boyfriend for a coffee date. I've been up since 5:30 am!!!

Hopefully tonight I won't be posting in this thread with another case of insomnia...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, CANADA!!!

Well here I am, up until the wee hours of the morning...once again.

Kind of like it when things are quiet at night sometimes and you can think though.

Went for a bikeride earlier in the afternoon yesterday and thinking of going again tomorrow...I mean today. The cold weather is approaching fast and soon biking season will be over.

Here's my bike...

Thinking too about the rest of the plants I have to bring indoors tomorrow for Winter protection. Brought in my mystery banana plant from Texas a couple night's ago, and it's growing again already.

Feel free to babble on about anything at all in this thread for middle of the night ramblers & babblers about nothing in particular.

Here's a nice shot I took on Friday afternoon of some October trees near my place...

Ok, now I feel like I'm talking to myself so it might be time to go to bed...

Hiya Re: Insomnia Thread...

That's true, Ante! LoL.

Hoping to get to bed much earlier tonight though...

Quote:
What can I do to improve my sleep habits?

Here are some things you can do to help you sleep better...

* Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even if you didn't sleep enough during the night. This will help train your body to sleep at night.
* Do the same thing every night before going to bed to help your body get ready for sleep. You might try taking a warm bath, reading or doing some other relaxing activity every night before going to bed. Soon you'll connect these activities with sleeping, and they'll help make you sleepy.
* Use the bedroom for sleeping. Don't eat, talk on the phone or watch TV while you're in bed.
* Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. If noise is a problem, use a fan to mask the noise or use ear plugs. You may hang dark blinds over the windows or wear an eye mask if needed.
* Avoid trying to fall asleep. The more you try to fall asleep, the more trouble you may have. Don't watch the clock. Turn it away so you can't see the time.
* Lying in bed and not being able to fall asleep can be frustrating. If you're still awake after 30 minutes, get up and go to another room. Sit quietly for about 20 minutes before going back to bed. Do this as many times as you need to until you can fall asleep.

Tips to help you sleep...

* Avoid or limit your use of caffeine (coffee, tea, colas, chocolate), decongestants, alcohol and tobacco.
* Exercise more often, but don't exercise within a few hours before going to bed.
* Don't start worrying about things when you go to bed. Set another time aside just for worrying. For example, you could spend 30 minutes after dinner writing down what's worrying you and what you can do about it.
* Try eating a light snack before going to bed, but don't eat too much right before bedtime. A glass of warm milk or cheese and crackers may be all you need.
*Don't nap during the day if naps seem to make your insomnia worse.

Maybe I'm shooting wildly here, Holly, but you're young, these disorders can easily be cured by the presence of a man (or more men). Most of these issues (including many other illnesses, diseases...) are a matter of psychology and psyche; the problem is usually hidden somewhere else than the physical manifestation or the "effect".

I know, for example, what would cure my temper and behaviour, and it is, not so surprisingly, a much warmer (and sunnier!) climate. Though beeing born here, I can't stand the cold, darkness that is present here usually at least 6 months/year... etc. Yet I can't unbind myself from this place... Ironically.

When a summer comes, I'm literally happy, relaxed, peaceful, ... have a great daily regime, but as it gets too cold to wear only T-shirts (outside), I start beeing aggressive, my natural regime is completely upside down, bad moods... are so natural, that good mood is a welcome change and it causes me physical stress that manifests as various health problems (non-existent I might add).

Maybe insomnia is just a way your body and mind tries to compensate or warn about something that causes you stress yet is unconscious or invisible for you under normal circumstances.

When I started fighting my winter moods and temper psychologically, it brought me great relief (and so it did for everybody in my surroundings ).
At some point, I was even happy for the snow and cold (yup, there were some moments, when I liked snow )

Is there maybe something that could be the root of your insomnia problem?

Well Jack...you hit the nail right on the head! Unfortunately it's too personal to discuss in a public post but I think it's stress that keeps me up, so you're right.

Thought so. Recently I read in the medical journal about the binding of physical and mental health and how it can affect the other side... Very interesting reading. [recently = +/- 3 years]

Hiya Re: Insomnia Thread...

Of course I was joking, Jack...but unless you've had yourself a Canadian woman, you have no
idea!

Thanks for the offer but I've got quite a few confidants to share my troubles and woes with, as it is. I really enjoyed your post though and think it's great that you figured out what's keeping me up.

Last night was good and I was asleep by midnight-ish.

Cory, thanks for popping in, and letting us know about your sleep habits.

Some people can't sleep either if they find themselves in a strange bed...I am one of these people too. That's why I'm not big on sleepovers, and tend to just toss & turn all night long.

Alright it's nearly 7:30 am! Time to get my parakeet up and hit the shower...

No way I could ever sleep in a strange bed! I've slept in strange beds before and if I'm alone, I dont sleep and feel horrible. But even if there's somebody in it, I dont sleep but I feel great!

They do too! Hope you had a great night!

Well when I said 'strange bed'...I just meant like even when my mom or my girlfriends will ask me to bunk over, I'll usually decline because it just means a night of insomnia for me.

Hell, I can barely get to sleep in my own bed, let alone someone else's!

Let's see how tonight goes...
