Smile New World Record

Joey Chestnut just set a new world record in the Nathans 4th of July hot dog eating contest with 68 in 10 minutes. Beating Takeru Kobayayshi who would have set a record himself with I believe 65 but to no avail. Go USA!
Happy 4th to all.

Happy 4th to all you United-Statesians.

I though that Kobayashi was getting a little long in the tooth, what with Chestnut having beat him last year. 68 dogs and buns in 10 minutes is pretty impressive!

Wink Re: New World Record

Kobayashi(my personal eating idol) is 5'5" and 170 lbs. Chestnut 6'1" and 225. Last year he looked fat. This year all the contestants all looked like athletes. Maybe next year they'll have an old timers division. I go back in to training Monday.

Nathans makes the best Hot Dogs. Whenever I want to impress someone with a boiled frank, it is a Nathan's dog with mustard.

68 hot dogs is pretty incredible, but it's something I can at least understand. About 30 years ago there was a TV story of some guy on that drank huge quantities of beer which I really couldn't believe. I remember he'd slam a large pitcher of beer down in a couple of seconds. Then he drank a pitcher of beer standing on his head in what seemed like a few seconds (I doubt these were done back to back in real life so the broadcast probably made a bigger impression on me than it may have in real life). I just tried seeing if I could find something like this on YouTube with nothing comparable to what I saw back then. This was some ordinary-looking guy that didn't come across as a big beer drinker, etc. I drank 64 ounces of beer in 5 minutes once (over 30 years ago) and it immediately made a return visit!

Harvey,

I think you are talking about this gentleman. He has passed away, unforetunately....talent like this comes around oh so rarely.

Thanks, John, that looks like the guy. I would have thought there would be a YT video of him but I didn't find any. I'm guessing I probably saw him on Taxi since that fits the time period I was thinking of.

"one of those mysteries of life"

I've never seen a contraption like that guy at the end had to place the chickens into before cutting off their head. I guess it makes much less of a mess. I haven't cut off a chicken's head in a long time!

I wish Tog were here; I'm sure he'd have some interesting tale to tell!

Ok, that's just too weird! Wow

Edit, it looks as though no one knows if the story is true or not, not even the fine people at Snopes.

Mitchel, I don't know if I agree with the term "fine people" for the husband and wife that operate Snopes. They do a pretty good job most of the time but show their biases in some matters and it shows.

Wikipedia isn't a foolproof source either, but it does appear to have adequate evidence for Mike's existence. Mike the Headless Chicken - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
