Default Nurseries in South Florida

I'm gonna be in South Florida this coming week, and I was wondering if there were any notable nurseries I could pick up some fairly priced tropicals. They'd have to be 1 or 5 gal only, since I drive a Mini.

Due to the generosity of the members here and the availability of bananas I'm actually looking for other stuff, possibly a mango tree, heliconia or coconut palm seedling (or anything unavailable in Jersey).

Thanks!

~Joe

Well if you want Mango and you want the best, you're looking for Nam Doc Mai and it's available at Pine Island Nursery
This is their website:
http://www.tropicalfruitnursery.com/...ewer/index.htm

It may be a little bit of a drive as they are a bit south, but well worth it.
I'm not sure if they have coconut but as far as exotic fruit goes they are one of the best in the world.

You might also want to give these guys a call and let them know you are in town from NJ and ask if they will let you stop by.

I have not met them yet but have been meaning to take a trip out there... it's not even that far from me just haven't made the time to visit or join.

Spikes Grove is another you might want to visit, they are off the turnpike, in Davie. They have a little of everything, not too sure about heliconias though... shoot me a PM if you want me to get you their number, I'm sure I have it in my filing cabinet..

I'm probably forgetting other must visit places and so I may update the thread with some more

Enjoy your visit!

Thanks Jarred!

I'm gonna make the drive out to Key West for a couple of days and then head back through Miami, hopefully with time to get to Fairchild (I've never been) and do some plant shopping! Pine Island Nursery looks great!

Jarred,

I looked up Spykes Grove that you mentioned, and I'm going to have to make a stop there! It has my entire wish list of palms and tropical fruits! I'm packing light to make more room in the Mini, you'd be surprised what I can fit in there!

Anyhow, I'm leaving first thing in the morning (Sunday) so I'll be stopping there Tuesday or Friday depending how things go!

Thanks so much for pointing them out to me!

Kindest regards,

~Joe

Hi!
I left Jersey back in 76' and never looked back.
We are in Palm Beach County.
I got my Dwarf Fiji Coconut trees, Dwarf Mango and other tropicals here:

Excalibur Fruit Trees

You have GOT to check out their Red lime!!

Just noticed the date on the tread....oops!
