Pest control
Well we have been battling fire ants for months in our yard and in cracks on driveway an sidewalk. Controlled them for awhile, now them have come back strong. They are bad this year around here since weather has been screwy. Now in anyone's experience is it better to buy a spreader an some harsh bug killer for fire ants anything else. Like ear wings an a roach I found in the garage. First one we ever saw around new house
Or would it be better to have a pest control company come out instead? |

Re: Pest control
Problem with pest control people is I always wonder if the first treatment is even that great? Like do they not dose as powerful so they can get you on a contract an keep coming over a years time. Guess no one knows that an would have to trust them.

Re: Pest control
Yes it is time, when they get serious then, it's time for you to get serious!!!! Think of them as your back yard terrorists and act appropriately!!

Re: Pest control
What ever I use must not be dangerous to my animals. Specifically my two White English farm dogs. Right now I am feeding them inside because of the fireants. Once I do some weeding by the fence I will be able to discover the colonies and kill them. This year they were not as bad as they were in other years, but with the fall they are making a comeback. The dogs are well educated about fireants and I have seem them avoid fruit that has those ants on them. Pain is a great teacher and maybe it is part instinctive. I have seen avoid making direct contact with snakes even though they bark at them.

Re: Pest control
I had a big problem with them. Thought I was killing them by putting the bagged pellets just around their entrance - but they just moved around the yard and made a new nest. Turns out you really do have to do about a 3 or 4 foot circle around them and then lightly water it to kill them. Since doing this they have not been a problem.

Re: Pest control
Yeah the pellets I have come in a red bag and says kills in mins. Which it does with some right away others either leave the area quick enough. I always make a trail around the area. Stuff worked great first few times now seems the ants aren't dieing as easy. But I blasted them twice in and around my GH and saw nothing yesterday around. Had a swarm all over the driveway and blasted them and even it being dry with them walking on it they started dieing. Found some stronger stuff at Farmers Supply and have a spreader so going that route.
