It's a nice idea, but they are never going to get land at that price. Southern forests start at about $1000 / hectare ($2400 / acre) and go up from there, and if they're trying to get land off the government they should be aware that extranjeros (foreigners) can not hold title or be given land that is owned by the State. I know this, because I am in the business of saving the trees down here.

The fact that most people won't sell to foreigners won't help either.

They're starting to come around to us, but we've been here for more than 2 years, and have made friends. The fact that I speak Lojano spanish doesn't hurt either.

But seriously - they are really in for a tough slog if they don't have an agreement already with the seller of the forest.

Interesting story, but the relationship of acres to hectares, above, is backwards. A hectare is 2.47 acres. An acre is .405 hectare, making the $1000.00/hectare land come out to $405.00/acre. I've seen this mistake several times before. I have a book, about growing (temperate zone) fruit, that is quite good, but this mistake is made throughout the book.
