Some garden creatures!
These are some of the garden visitors I've been able to capture pictures of so far this year..
A Red Dragonfly! This is my first time ever seeing a red one. Click on the picture to see it full size, it's really cool! One of a family of Racoons that made it's way through the garden. I was barely able to get the camera out and turn it on before they were gone so this is the only shot I got on whatever the camera was set on which I think was Macro! This is a giant moth that hung out with me for hours! I must have taken about 50 pictures of it! This is Buddy the bird. He visits everyday and dive bombs the insects. He also fertilizes the garden as you can see! And this is our cat Gigi. She likes to hunt for critters in the garden! Last edited by momoese : 08-01-2008 at 11:49 PM. |

Re: Some garden creatures!
Growing up east of you in Redlands CA, as young kids those red dragon flies would give us a big fright. We thought they were hornets!
I believe Buddy the bird is a Phoebe.

Re: Some garden creatures!
Thanks Richard, we have always wondered what kind he is. I'm assuming it's a "he". It's great fun to sit on the couch with a glass of wine and watch him work!

Re: Some garden creatures!
I see the organgish-red dragonflies like that here in the Houston are quite a bit. I got a cool shot of one a few yrs. back that had just crawled out of my water garden and transformed from it's larval stage. It was on a pot drying it's wings. Pretty cool.
