Drummer What Are You Listening To?

I thought it might be interesting to see what type of music members like, and how it changes day-to-day. I love music; am a musician and play the trombone. My likes are very eclectic....Classical, jazz, classic rock, some country music (but not much), no rap or hip hop (I've tried but just can't get into it, but then again I'm an old codger of 61), love boogie woogie, blues, celtic, klezmer, classical guitar, folk, swing and southern rock. Right now I'm listening to a wonderful recording of Brahms' Sonatas for Cello and Piano, with Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax. Sublime!

Default Re: What Are You Listening To?

Currently, I'm listening to Supertramp - Crime of the Century (Dreamer), and as I write that has changed to Kenny Rogers - The Gambler. I've got my 5,000 song library on shuffle, so just about anything could be next.

I listen to just about everything except death metal. Country music in small doses, and swing-jazz but not acid jazz. I have a special place in my heart for ska and dub reggae, I love jump-blues, "world" music especially African and Middle-Eastern rhythms. However, if I had to take a single record with me to a desert island, it would be Mozart's Requiem.

I play the banjo, charango, flute, trombone, and piano, and I sing contralto.

Another slide jockey! My piano skills are so minuscule I wouldn't mention them. I used to also play the accordion and the baritone bugle. (My son plays alto, tenor and bari sax.)This is fascinating! I'm impressed. Dreamer is a good cut. I also would have Requiem, and would add Sonny Rollins' Saxophone Colossus and The Blues Brothers, and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue!

Edit- How could I forget to bring Miles Davis' Birth of the Cool?

I love those 50s, 60s, and early 70s records. I have all of Elvis' original albums, all of Joni James' original albums and CDs. Also have over 10,000 song collection on karaoke (you'd never guess I'm Filipino, huh?) in various formats. Last time I was in Vegas, my wife and I happened to be in the lounge at the Boulder Station and they were celebrating Elvis' 30 year anniversary that evening. I sang "Can't help Falling in Love" and got a standing ovation from the patrons in the lounge, and warm handshakes from the people who were in the aisles. And I was just wearing slippers because we were staying at that hotel.

i played piano for 9 years....then had curpral tunnel surgery...in what used to take me 9.7 seconds to run up 88 keys now takes me almost 8 minutes...so the dexterity sucks! now i play the radio and the cd player and do it pretty well.. hahaha. i like 80's big hair bands, what they called "mod" mucis in the 80's.....duran duran, omd, and yes culture club, hahahah. stephen wolfe, skynnard etc.. i still like my ratt, motleycrue, winger,warrent,etc....but my favorite, all time favorite is to hear my 11 month old grandson bang on the 1898 behr bros piano i have sitting in my living room.( beethovens, motzart, bach and the rest are good too).

Wink Re: What Are You Listening To?

I played guitar in bands for almost 20 years and then took up classical violin for 10. My wife makes fun of me because after work I'll go put on cd's and have a cocktail and the selection will go from Jimi Hendrix to the Monkees to the Stones to Itzahk Perlman playing Paganini to Steppenwolf and back to Bach. Then maybe some Blues......Pretty much everything but Rap and disco.

Howard you like klezmer aye? I'm not Jewish but used to go see the klezmatics a lot . They are from NYC and used to play around here. Great violinist in that group.

Sam, Culture club and Winger?........ugh

Simple taste for me, anything from Gloria Estafan, Diana Ross, 60s and 70s Rock n Roll and Latin. Some of Shaggy! That's enough to keep the smile on my face!

Chong, what's with you Filipinos that most of y'all can sing so well? Food, water, air you breathe? When I was in Cebu many years ago, I figure 9/10 can really sing. Normal church service is like a big concert. I was so impressed.

Merengue suave on RadioBeta - Your tune to the world , but I also like soft metal, ska, reggae & bluebeat, guitar, classical piano - most things except jazz & rap. Anybody remember Duane Eddy? My first boyfriend had "Songs of our heritage" on vinyl, and when we broke up I was more upset at losing the record than him! lol!

Its classic rock, blues and classical for me. Music I've bought is mostly blues. Damn Right I've got the Blues by Buddy Guy was probably the last CD I bought. Have a lot of Muddy Waters.

I played the trap set in a small rock band growing up. Played a little in a country band. I played the banjo but haven't picked one up in a long while. I get the telecaster (black and gold) out every once in a while pumping thru my 1953 les paul jr.'s three tubes (actually the signal only goes thru two). Rock on!

I'm all over the musical map. Just about anything get played in this house!

Brian, I'm 45 and even I like EDM and used to participate heavily in the Underground scene before it became known as the "Rave scene" We actually had our parties/clubs in vacant warehouses with stolen electricity from neighboring buildings! This was back in the late 80's into the early 90's. It was a lot of fun, no rules or dress codes, just cool people having fun until the police or fire dept showed up. Got to see most of the big DJs from the day spin. This was before lasers and light shows, but fire breathers/jugglers were not unusual! The clubs were also very hard to find. First you had to be on a mailing list to get the instructions, then go from on spot to another getting new instructions until you finally found the party. This was also before the gangs got involved. Good times!

I'm more into Glitch these days, especially from the likes of eDIT and the Glitch Mob.

At the moment I'm really into Emily Wells. Don't quite know how to explain her stuff but it's really fun to see her in a small 50-100 person club while chillin with some cocktails!

Here is a clip from the Emily Wells Trio Symphony shot at Hotel Cafe which is where we like to see her perform.

60's, 70's and 80's but would lean more towards Clapton, Santana and the Stones than Beach Boy type music. Old Country and some new. Classical, new age, southern rock, country/rock blues, folk music, hymns and .........the rain! Glad you mentioned that Taylor! Love nature sounds, especially running water.

Oh yeah....I know all about underground parties. I've been to more than a few warehouse parties and parties where you have to call the 'info line' the day of the party to get directions. And yeah, I spin fire poi, glowsticks, ropedart, flags, contact juggle, devilsticks and staff (yeah, I'm a regular circus freak...LOL). I also do laser lighting for parties under my small business, Optical TrancenDANCE. CA scene is pretty shady from all the things I've heard...lots of massives (10k+ people...not necessarily a bad thing, just not my style) and lots of drugs/gangs/violence/drama/BS. I'm originally from Iowa and our scene is pretty pure and kickin' (believe it or not).

Glad to hear there are other EDM-lovers on this site!
