Default it is winter *pics*

today I went ice-skating on a huge lake ! I dont know how big it is, but when i stood at one side, I wasn't able to see the other side.
Here are some pics:

normally it doesnt get that cold! in easther netherlands it was -20 with several nights below -15c. I didnt got lower than -10 but still very cold and the maximumtemperature of this day is -3.
a lots of plants will be several damaged or even go death with this weather but when I look at the pics above it doesnt matter me, it is so beautiful and cosy

BTW: sorry for the poor quality, I made them with my old phone because or camera didnt work because it was too cold.

LOL!!

That is funny, I dont really care of the sun that much, just when it gets to cold my back hurts really bad, and I do not like it one bit. I need temps of 80's for life! I can stand the temps right now in FL, today has been 74, with low of 54 late tonight.

I agree global warming will not be so bad for people like us, but think about all the polar bear's! Who will be filling our Coke bottles when they are gone?

Daen - beautiful pictures - thank you. It is great to enjoy what you have when you have it! I have wonderful memories of skating on frozen flooded fields in Northern England years ago - such fun except when my skate cought in a tall piece of grass!!

When I was doing building construction inspections in the villages of North Slope Borrough, Alaska (that's north of the Arctic Circle) during winter, I always kept my camera inside my parka to keep it warm until I needed to use it. It's a hassle, I know. But it works. I was even using a manual 35mm film camera with through the lens metering, a Pentax ME Super. Best darn 35mm camera, IMHO. I took a lot of night photography, in moonlight, with just a tripod, but without a flash, with that thing, and the pictures were outstanding.

One time, in the town of North Pole, AK the temperature was -65°F (-54°C) during the day, and being close to the Arctic Circle, there was hardly any light because the sun barely came up over the horizon, but I was still able to take pictures. It was quite a challenge, though. I had to enshroud around the camera with the front of my parka during the timed exposure, to keep the camera temperature well above 45°F (7°C).

Daen ..... those pictures are awesome!!! I would love to be there ice skating with such beautiful scenery. It's breath taking to me especially since I've never seen anything like that in person and to have such a huge area to skate would be so fun. Gotta find things to do in the winter!
