Here in the tropics bananas grow fine in wet mud. When planting suckers, plant in a mound so they are a bit above the water line, but once they get going they can spread out into the waterlogged mud.

Water suckers will not grow as fast or big as sword ones, but they will make their own next generation of sword suckers which will be fine.

Search youtube for bananas winter bubble wrap. Instead of bubble wrap some people pile leaves around as insulation. As long as the corm survives it will grow back when it is warm again.

Don't plant kudzu or other climbing vines, they can kill bananas if they climb them. They twirl around the young leaves as they come out and don't let them open, they can break leaves. Other legumes...

Just leave it, it will grow back. As long as they didn't eat up the whole corm and there are some buds left on it, it will grow back.

Thanks sunfish, a really good article on breeding. So it seems that acid kills seed but scarifying with sandpaper or poking a hole with a pin to break through the inner layer of seed coat may help...

From what I see of bananas in the wild, I think they are meant to have their seeds dispersed by animals. The banana fruit is meant to be eaten by fruit bats, monkeys, birds, squirrels. The seeds...

Many of the local cultivars are diploid but with tiny specks for seeds. The wild bananas have thin pseudostems and small fruit (pictured in my avatar). The fruit has edible flesh but a lot of seeds...
