Re: I pulled out my Manzano.

This thread is interesting to me for a couple of reasons. I've noticed that a few people living on the west coast like Brazilians a lot more than Manzanos, and vise versa on the east coast. I grew...

Re: Chini Champa first bunch

I am growing a Chini Champa. It does not resemble the pictures that Dan posted of his Chini Champa fruit. It most closely resembles and tastes simular to the Mysore I grew years ago. I don't grow...

Re: Ae Ae propagation project

After looking at those pictures again, I have become inspired. I'm thinking of resurrecting "the project" but in a smaller way. I have confirmed that the planting stock from the original project is...

Re: Pineapples....

All three of those plants are relatively smooth compared to a variety with serrated edges like a Natal Queen. The smooth in Smooth Cayenne does not mean perfectly smooth without even a couple thorns,...

Re: SH 3640 Taste Report

I don't think what you have pictured is SH-3640 . Those bananas look to be about 5-6 inches long. That picture also has persistent male flowers, which the SH-3640 does not have. The shape, length,...

Re: Banana Novice: Help! Raked back mulch - bare root!

Lateral roots under the canopy is normal and how the plants capture nutrients. The corm that is developing will anchor itself just fine, without any help from you. Just let it grow, and in the...

Re: What are the Negatives for growing the SH-3640?

In my yard the SH3640 is a very vigorous and sturdy plant that fruits at around 10'. It produces large bunches, with large fat fingers, and the texture is on the dense side, no mealiness at all, The...

Re: What pest eats basil?

Every time I find something not eaten but damaged, it ends up being a coon.
They have chewed new banana pups, pineapples, bell pepper plants ( not the peppers), etc... They don't seem to eat...

Re: Red Banana leaves turning brown

Sounds like over-watering. It's easy to do in pots. Transplant it and you can see if there are any signs of rot. It's hard to know for sure without pictures, but it's not sunburn.

Re: Bloom size correlate to harvest size?

I read somewhere that a banana plant determines how many hands it will produce by 3-4 mos. That seems to be accurate according to my trials growing them. I do know that even if you get a large bunch,...

Re: How close do Manzano's and Brazillians in taste?

I have grown all three , and Manzano has been my favorite, not only of these three varieties, but out of the 50+ varieties I've grown, except for Chini Champa!

The Manzano and Chini Champa are my...
