Description

Snub-nosed" is rarely cultivated but grows wild in forests on Kauai and Hawaii (62, P. 42). It has curved, angular fruit growing on a small stem, with a tough yellow skin when ripe and yellow flesh which is edible only when cooked. The name of the tree describes the shape of its fruit. The leaf is dark green with a light green midrib and petiole, and dark brown patches at the base of the petiole. The trunk is short, slender and tapering, and green throughout. Tips of fruit often retain the dead styles of the flower.
