rocco , I just set it on the basement floor as is . The last couple years on a piece of plastic or tarp . You could place the corm in a garbage bag to help keep some of the dirt off of the floor but...

I store mine bareroot in the basement . That's pretty much it . When the frost comes and kills the leaves I cut them off , dig it out and put it in the dark basement . The temp probably ranges 45-65F...

Hi Sandy , the thai black banana I got from you has done really well this summer . It is probably pushing 8' tall right now ...
The sikkimensis is not nearly as tall but , doing well nonetheless ....

John --- Lots of protection for the palms . The basjoos are the only bananas I leave in the ground . The rest I dig and store in the basement and some I pot and store in the house ...

I store several varieties bareroot in my basement here in PA . I have successfully done this with red abbyssinian , orinocos and musella lasiocarpa . I am trying a musa zebrinus and a bordelon this...

Here are my tall orinocos in storage in South Central , PA .
Around 50-60F in the basement , no water , no light .
I have been successful doing it this way...

The irises are variegated , kind of pale green with a white stripe , they have already flowered around the beginning of June . It is a medium/dark purple flower ...

I don't know if it would be any better or not but , they didn't seem to mind ( last year anyway ) . It's not terribly cold where they are stored probably 50-55F , so maybe that helps .

I tried overwintering an orinoco in the ground last year in PA z6b . 4 foot wire cage filled with straw and covered with a tarp . It didn't survive and like others have said if it did survive it...

Last year I did the cages filled with straw and covered by a tarp ( a real PITA ) , this year I did the bag deal as well . I did cover the bags with a tarp to help shed some water .
